Kerns Brothers Tree Service was started in 1973 in Delaware County, Pennsylvania by three of the five Kerns Brothers – John, Lohr (Teake) and Robert (Bob). John and Bob were working to provide a means of support to finish college and Teake to supplement his income as a Science teacher.  In the mid 1970s Teake left the business and went out on his own in Chester County and surrounding areas.  John and Bob continued working in the tri-state area.

In the early 1980s, John and Bob relocated the business to  Wilmington, Delaware. During this time, John was teaching full-time and working in the business full-time.  The mid 1980s saw the growth of the business, which necessitated increased employee hiring and educational training, as well as involvement in several professional organizations.

During this time, Kerns Brothers developed into a reputable tree care and landscape company serving thousands of satisfied clients in Delaware, Pennsylvania, Maryland, and New Jersey. Kerns Brothers currently has two divisions – Tree Care and Landscape Construction – with thirty professional, skilled, and experienced employees.
